Oncoradiology

Oncoradiology, or the diagnosis and imaging of cancer, has recently come to include the treatment of cancer using newer imaging modalities such as Radiofrequency Ablation, and chemoembolization in association with angiography. Diagnostic imaging modalities utilized favor MRI and CT, but include angiography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and for the breast, mammography. Recent studies have shown CT to be efficacious in screening the lungs of patients with a history of smoking. Screening CT of other areas such as the abdomen is also performed, but the efficacy of these studies has not been studied.

Examinations and Procedures include:

  • Plain radiographs
  • MRI including MR angiography and cholangiography
  • CT including CT angiography
  • Ultrasound
  • Nuclear medicine, including PET
  • Mammography
  • Angiography, including chemoembolization
  • Radiofrequency ablation
  • Biopsy of solid viscera, bone, lung and soft tissue
